B+E Car and trailer

Course information

Our B+E car and trailer course is required for anyone who wishes to have formal training in order to drive towing a trailer (including a caravan and horsebox).

Course summary 

Candidates will be trained both off-road and on-road and will complete a test with our trainer afterwards driving on the public road. 

Off-road 

  • Eyesight
  • Familiarisation with vehicle
  • Safety checks
  • Parking / manoeuvring
  • Tail swing
  • Coupling and uncoupling
  • Safe loading
  • Speed limits
  • Vehicle dimensions
  • Tuition on reversing procedure 

On-road 

  • Use of mirrors
  • Stopping distances
  • Lane discipline
  • Awareness and planning
  • Downhill/ uphill gradients
  • Cambers
  • Cross winds
  • Junction types i.e narrow, angled etc
  • Cornering
  • Town, country, A-roads & dual carriageways 

Course Duration 

Between 1/2 a day and 2 days dependent on the drivers previous experience 

Certification 

On completion of this course you will be awarded a CTA certificate
