CSCS Green Labourer card training comprises of three elements: 

1) A relevant Health & Safety qualification, 2) a CITB touch screen test and 3) applying for your card.

You can complete both of these qualifications with Camilla Training, and if you like – we can even apply for your CSCS card for you!


1. CITB SSP Health & Safety Awareness Training £114 + VAT

This course is an accepted CSCS Green Labourer card training course

This 1 day course is for you if you’re considering, or are already working within the construction and civil engineering industry.

Overview

The CITB Health & Safety awareness course highlights potential hazards when working on site and provides practical advice on keeping yourself and your colleagues safe.  It covers your individual and employer’s responsibilities, including what you can do if you think anyone’s health and safety is being put at risk.

At the end of the course you will have an understanding of:

    • The need to prevent accidents

    • Health and safety law

    • How your role fits into the control and management of the site

    • Risk assessments and method statements

    • Performing safely and asking for advice

    • How to report unsafe acts to prevent an accident

 

Course cost: £114 + VAT

Certification: We will send your CITB certificate to you on completion of your course. These can take up to 10 days to process by CITB. Please keep hold of this certificate as you’ll need it when applying for your CSCS Labourer card.

 


2. CITB Touch screen test £42 + VAT

At our CITB accredited test centre in Fife you can sit your HS&E test – also known as the CSCS health & safety test. Our centre is based just a 5 min drive from the Lochgelly junction of the A92 and we have free parking and lots of availability.

There are three types of CITB HS&E tests available:

    • Operatives

    • Specialists

    • Managers and professionals

For the purpose of the CSCS Labourer card most candidates sit the Operatives test, however if you or your employees require a Working at Heights Specialist test for example – this may also be sat.

Test cost: £42 + VAT

Test availability: Please get in touch either via email or give us a call on 01592 720033 so we can find the most suitable date and time for you. We offer early morning test slots and later afternoon slots to help work around work / other responsibilities. Online booking available here!

Certification: On completion of your test you will be given a ‘score report’ which will tell you if you’ve passed or failed. The score report will also detail any areas in which you’ve answered questions incorrectly. Please keep hold of this score report as you’ll need it when applying for your CSCS card.


3. CSCS card £30 + VAT

Now you’ve completed both courses you’re ready to apply for your card! It’s an easy process – all you’ll need to hand are your certificates from the above courses and a debit or credit card.

Please visit the CSCS website and hit ‘apply for a CSCS card’ button and follow the steps.

Please be aware that if you apply for your card yourself CSCS will only charge you £30 + VAT. If you are paying more than this, then you have not applied directly with CSCS. Please use the link above to apply directly with CSCS.

If you’d like us to apply for your CSCS card for you an additional administration fee of £20 + VAT will be applicable. We will take care of the application and either post your card to you or let you know when it’s arrived so you can pop in and collect it


Labourer card validity

In February 2025 the rules regarding the validity of the CSCS labourer card have changed.

The labourer card is valid for two years on first application. Workers who continue to work in labouring roles can renew for a further five years by providing evidence that they are employed in a labouring role.

The SQA Level 1 Award in Health & Safety in a Construction Environment is accepted by CSCS for the green labourer card. As well as this 1 day course you are required to sit the HS&E Operatives test (which we also deliver at our centre in Cardenden). This course is for you if you’re considering, or are already working within the construction and civil engineering industry.  The Level 1 Award is a life-long qualification.

How to renew your blue card

To renew your CPCS Blue Competent Operator card, you must now complete the CPCS Renewal CPD along with a few other steps:

Renewal CPD

The CPCS Renewal CPD is easily accessible via the NOCN hub and allows candidates to complete their learning on any device connected to the internet (including smart phones).  Learning can be completed at a time and location to suit the card holder and will provide the candidate with instant feedback.  No tests are involved, only short question and answer sections to check a candidates learning with a review screen to summarise any incorrect answers.

The new CPD consists of five modules which cover all current CPCS categories, reducing the number of modules required for each card holder to complete prior to renewing their CPCS card.

CITB HS&E test

 

The CITB HS&E test (also known as the CSCS touch screen test) can be sat at our very own CITB approved test centre in Fife.  The CITB HS&E test is an important way for construction workers to show that they can be safe on the job.  It’s also a way for them to know that their fellow workers are as safe on the site and won’t put them at risk of injury.

For employers, having workers who’ve passed the CITB test is assurance that their workforce can continue to be safe at work

There are three types of CITB HS&E test:

About the Operatives CITB HS&E tests

The Operatives Health, Safety and Environment test ensures workers have a minimum level of health, safety and environmental awareness before going on site.

 

About the Specialist CITB HS&E tests

These CITB tests include questions about the five core knowledge areas as well as relevant questions in the chosen specialist areas. The Specialists test can be taken in the following topics:

  • supervisory (SUP)
  • demolition (DEM)
  • plumbing (JIB) (PLUM)
  • highway works (HIW)
  • specialist work at height (WAH)
  • lifts and escalators (LAEE)
  • tunnelling (TUNN)
  • HVACR – heating and plumbing services (HAPS)
  • HVACR – pipefitting and welding (PFW)
  • HVACR – ductwork (DUCT)
  • HVACR – refrigeration and air conditioning (RAAC)
  • HVACE – services and facilities maintenance (SAF)

 

About the Managers and Professionals CITB HS&E test

This test covers the same five core areas but also includes questions on the following topics:

  • Construction (design and management) regulations
  • Demolition
  • Highway works

 

 

Studying for your test

Special assistance

You can choose to take your CITB test with the help of a voiceover audio recording in either English or Welsh. If you are sitting the operatives test you can choose from a further 12 languages. You will be provided with headphones so you can hear the test questions and possible answers in your chosen language. The questions and answers displayed on the screen will remain in English.

You can take the operatives test with the help of a video recording of a BSL signer which will play on screen during the test.

 

Certification

On completion of your CSCS touch screen test you will be given a score report identifying a pass or fail.  If you have been unsuccessful the score report will identify areas of weakness to allow further study prior to booking a resit.

 

CSCS cards
