To renew your CPCS Blue Competent Operator card, you must take and pass the CPCS Renewal Test.
The test makes sure that you have kept your knowledge of each plant category or group of categories held on your card up-to-date.
The tests are designed to cover the essential knowledge that is expected of experienced plant operators. These tests have been developed with industry to meet the needs of construction plant and trades.
About the test
Each test is 15 minutes and you will be required to take a renewal test for each group of categories that you hold on your card.

The test costs £47.50 + VAT and includes up to 5 modules.
Studying for the test
CPCS have CPCS renewal test revision factsheets available to help you study for your test. The specific fact-sheet that you require can be downloaded when using the CPCS renewal tool.
Simply select the categories of plant on your card and the tool will tell you which modules you require to sit and provide you with the study materials to study for this. Please note, tests are sometimes grouped into categories which means you won’t have to be tested for 2 machines within a single category. For example, if you have both the 180 degree excavator and 360 degree excavator on your card, you will only need to sit RT59 and this will cover both categories.
Special assistance
You can take the CPCS renewal test with the help of a voiceover audio recording in either English or Welsh. The questions will be displayed on screen and read to you with the headphones provided.
